Streams

We have three streams this year: two Lindy Hop streams and a Shag stream.

Please choose whichever you feel suits you best! If you're unsure, don't be afraid to reach out to us or to a teacher you trust.

Lindy Hop

Sticking with the switch-it-up theme, our Lindy Hop streams will be taught beyond lead and follow: everyone dances with everyone!

We will ask you to choose the role you're most comfortable with when you buy a ticket, however this is only information to pass to teachers and will not affect how the class is taught. If you don't have a preference, go with Switch!

The split between these streams is not based on how long you’ve been dancing, how many weekenders you’ve attended or how many moves you know! Instead, the split is based on your understanding of the following concepts:

As stream names suggest, Sapling will focus more on the groundwork for these skills, while Blossom is about development and exploration of these skills.

🌱 Sapling Stream 🌱

You feel closer to the beginning of your wider swing dance journey, and would like to develop your personality and flair in your dancing. This stream is suitable for dancers who would like to explore self expression in Charleston, partnered and solo, as well as connecting to the music and inviting others to share the experience.

No previous switch dancing experience is required.

🌸 Blossom Stream 🌸

You’re comfortable expressing yourself in dance and with one or more roles as well as dancing solo. This is for those who are confident in the roots of the previously mentioned dance skills, but understand that there’s always space to grow! If you want to develop your groove and creativity in your dance, then this stream is for you!

Switch dancing experience is welcome but not necessary.

Collegiate Shag

Unlike the other streams, our Shag stream will be taught in lead and follow. This is aimed at intermediate Shag dancers who are confident with the basic steps and looking to flourish within the dance style.

🪶 Shag Stream 🪶

You’re comfortable dancing in both open and closed positions and transitioning between them, and are confident with Collegiate Shag moves on the social dance floor. You’d like to develop your understanding of the dance and work on technique, variations and musicality, as well as pick up some new moves along the way.

The name is on theme, we promise—a shag is a species of bird! We hope you’ll be flying across the dance floor in no time.
